On August 1, 1976, the Federal Communications Commission granted Bolivar Broadcasting Service, Inc. a license to broadcast at 3000 watts using the call letters WQKZ-FM.
The station license was sold to the West Tennessee Radio Network in 1987. In 1988, the station call letters were changed to WMOD-FM.
In 1997, the station was sold to WMOD Inc. It remains family owned and operated.
WMOD uses ABC's Real Country format, a mix of classic and new country music, featuring new artists such as George Strait, Reba, and Alan Jackson while playing oldies from Tom T. Hall, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson.
For news, WMOD uses ABC News, the Tennessee Radio Network and does a local broadcast each weekday at noon.
WMOD does extensive coverage of local sports, from Dixie Youth League Baseball to Bolivar and Middleton athletics. WMOD also carries the University of Tennessee Volunteer Network for football.
